All Rural Habitations Covered With Adequate & Safe Drinking Water Supply: Jairam Ramesh

August 30, 2011: As per the reports received from the States, a total of 16 ,64, 186 habitations in the rural areas of the country have been covered with adequate and safe drinking water supply, including 4,77,426 habitations having partially covered.


A statement made by the Rural Development Minister and Minister of Drinking water and sanitation Shri Jairam Ramesh in the Rajya Sabha during question hour said that all uncovered habitations identified for coverage at the inception of Bharat Nirman have been covered with drinking water facilities. The financial outlay for rural water supply in the 11th Five Year Plan was about Rs.39,490 crore, but the amount made available by the Planning Commission was Rs.40,150 crore.


The statement said, during the first four years of the 11th Plan, against a target of coverage of 6,53,798 habitations, the States have been able to cover,5,29,967 rural habitations with provision of adequate and safe drinking water supply. (Source: PIB)
