25% reservation for BPL students in private schools: Government

Ranchi, May 12, 2012: Every private school should have 25% reservation at entry level. This was decided in a meeting convened by deputy commissioner K K Soan to discuss the implementation of the Right to Education Act on Saturday. Principals of 58 ICSE and CBSE-affiliated schools, district education superintendent and district transport officer were present in the meeting.

"Principals of all schools should send the number of seats available and the number of seats allotted to BPL students in their respective schools to the DSE within a month so the unfulfilled quota can be fulfilled," said Soan.

The meeting also directed the schools about the use of buses. Soan said, "Permits of buses older than 15 years will not be renewed and those buses will have to be replaced."

The DC directed the principals to make a disaster management plan for their schools and submit it to the project officer of the disaster management department who was present in the meeting.

To make the students aware of the benefits of good health and social service, Soan directed the principals to establish a junior Red Cross society in every institution. He said, "Eco club should be formed in every school to teach children about the benefits of a clean and green environment."

Everybody, both government and private schools, should cooperate with the administration to implement the RTE act in the district so that we can become a model city for implementing the act, said Soan. (Source: The Times of India)
