Bihar MLAs in Dakshin Kannada to study Panchayat Raj

A delegation of 20 members, including nine MLAs and government officials of Bihar, led by Zilla Parishat and Panchayat Raj Legislative Committee Chairman Anandi Prasad Yadav visited Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday to make a study of the functioning of the Panchayat Raj bodies here. 

Pune hosts summer school on sustainable habitats

The three-week-long ‘Summer School on sustainable habitats’ will be held in four cities in India, including Pune, from September 5-23. The Summer School is being jointly organised by German International Cooperation (GIZ) and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).


The issue of sanitation, low-cost housing and energy efficiency will be discussed at the event under the topic of urban sustainability concepts and national urban policy framework. The event will be held at the Institute of Environment Education and Research at Bharati Vidyapeeth University in Pune.

Additional funds to Madhya Pradesh under NRDWP conditional: Jairam Ramesh

Madhya Pradesh will get the second installment of central funds for 2011-12 under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) only after meeting certain important conditions, Union Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh has said.

Most Delhi slums sans proper toilets: Study

New Delhi, August 30: Most slum dwellers in Delhi do not have access to household toilets and the community toilets are in a pathetic condition, a World Health Organisation (WHO)-supported study revealed today.


Delhi Healthy Urban Project was conducted by the Sulabh International Academy of Environmental Sanitation and Public Health in east, west and south Delhi. Water supply and overall sanitation too were found to be major problems.

Orissa Govt to develop micro plan for the sanitation campaign to control Dengue menace

August 26: In a video conference was held on emergence, control and management of Dengue in the OCAC conference hall for the Collector’s and District Magistrate of 11 districts by Chief Secretary of Orissa Bijay kumar Pattanaik.


The Collector and District Magistrate, CDMO and DMOs  and nodal officers of Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Iagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda  were  present in their respective Districts for interaction. ADM of Angul, state nodal officer, CDMO were on the other side.

Sanitation work stopped in Sambalpur, Orissa for a month

At a time when the entire state is reeling under dengue scare, sanitation work including garbage lifting has been stopped in Sambalpur for the past one month.


Accusing municipality chairperson Reena Trivedi of prolonging the stalemate, a group of councilors, led by the vice-chairman, locked the municipal office on Wednesday.


"We have locked the office gate protesting against the unfriendly attitude of the chairman. We took the step when she refused to hold a council meeting to bring out a solution to the sanitation problem", vice chairman Sidhartha Saha said.

India, Tamil Nadu: public toilets in disrepair, villagers suffer

Public toilets constructed seven years ago in an Indian village, soon fell in disrepair because the pump that provided the water supply stopped working, and did not get repaired. Now the 2,500 inhabitants of Kokkarapati village, in Trichy district, Tamil Nadu, are deprived of any sanitation facilities, IndiaUnheard reports.
