Orissa Govt to develop micro plan for the sanitation campaign to control Dengue menace

August 26: In a video conference was held on emergence, control and management of Dengue in the OCAC conference hall for the Collector’s and District Magistrate of 11 districts by Chief Secretary of Orissa Bijay kumar Pattanaik.


The Collector and District Magistrate, CDMO and DMOs  and nodal officers of Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Iagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda  were  present in their respective Districts for interaction. ADM of Angul, state nodal officer, CDMO were on the other side.

Sanitation work stopped in Sambalpur, Orissa for a month

At a time when the entire state is reeling under dengue scare, sanitation work including garbage lifting has been stopped in Sambalpur for the past one month.


Accusing municipality chairperson Reena Trivedi of prolonging the stalemate, a group of councilors, led by the vice-chairman, locked the municipal office on Wednesday.


"We have locked the office gate protesting against the unfriendly attitude of the chairman. We took the step when she refused to hold a council meeting to bring out a solution to the sanitation problem", vice chairman Sidhartha Saha said.

Lack of water, sanitation test protestors resolve at Ramlila Maidan

As droves of people flocked to Ramlila Maidan to voice their support for Anna Hazare, lack of water and sanitation facilities at the venue tested the resolve of quite a few supporters.


With the protests probably stretching over more than two weeks, protesters hope that arrangements will be made soon for clean drinking water and medicines to alleviate the suffering of the people flocking to support the movement. According to the agreement reached between team Anna and police, the organisers have to arrange for drinking water, medical aid and mobile toilets.

NGO initiates women empowerment project: 680 women trained on water, sanitation and hygiene related issues

To save thousands of people of flood affected areas in South Punjab from water-borne diseases, Friend Foundation initiated women empowerment project through Water Supply Scheme Muzaffar Garh funded by Asia Foundation and Aurat Foundation with the support of USIAD in the two union councils of Wan Pattfai and Ghazi Ghat in Muzaffagarh district.


The objective of the project was to empower the rural women of the flood effected areas on water, sanitation and hygiene issues and their capacity building. Friend Foundation has implemented this project in six months.

Water supply and sanitation project in North: Sri Lanka

The government has commenced a water supply and sanitation project with Asian Development Bank funds to improve water supply and sanitation facilities of the people in Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts in keeping with the government's target to provide safe drinking water for all citizens.


The Japanese Fund for Poverty Reduction has also agreed to provide a grant assistance of US $ two million to improve water supply and sanitation facilities of the people in 23 rural villages in Delft, Mathagal-East, Shanthai and Vaddakachchi East and Central.
