Water borne diseases hit Sonia Vihar in east Delhi

India, April 19 -- WITH THE summer season approaching, the risk of water borne diseases is getting higher. Recently, there was a report that about 15-20 cases of jaundice and other stomach ailments are being reported in east Delhi's Sonia Vihar alone every month.

Recycling waste and earning money

Chennai: The Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply has put in place a novel initiative to recycle plastic waste and in the process earn a little money.


Under the project, plastic waste such as cups, sheets, use-and-throw polythene bags among many others generated from 10 municipalities in the Kancheepuram district are collected, stored and then sold in an auction.

India, New Delhi: using Facebook and SMS to keep the city clean

Hygiene education program for school children

 A two-day workshop on School Sanitation and Menstrual Hygiene was held at Wokha from April 15 to 16, with Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Rovilato Mor as the chief guest.
To accelerate the school sanitation and hygiene education programme in the district of Wokha, this child-to-child interaction programme was initiated by Community Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) PHED, Government of Nagaland, which is a step in the right direction.

HMWS & SB Water unfit for human consumption, finds survey

Water supplied by teh Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS & SB) is unsafe and not fit for human consumption, according to a survey conducted by a Joint Action for Water, a city based NGO.
