Vijaywada, May 5, 2013: Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh today said that 4,000 towns from different parts of the country are to be brought under the ambitious 'PURA' (Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) project.
Addressing a meeting after inaugurating a 'PURA' project along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Ramesh said that small towns in the country are still treated as major panchayats and they need basic amenities like roads, drinking water, sewerage treatment, street lighting.

According to District Medical Officer R. Ramesh, in the past four months, 67 Hepatitis A and 37 dengue cases have been reported from various parts of the district.
If unchecked, the situation might worsen with the onset of the monsoon.

Thiruvanthapuram, Dec. 11, 2012: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday launched e-toilets that are customised to function automatically in extreme cold weather.
Tailored to meet sub-zero climatic conditions of Jammu and Kashmir, two e-toilets will be installed at Affarwat and Gulmarg on experimental basis. Besides, a sewage treatment plant will be set up at Dal Lake in Srinagar to address waste dumped by houseboats. Both the projects are being implemented for the J&K Tourism department.
