Bhagalpur, Feb 19, 2012: The disposal of garbage in urban areas under its jurisdiction has been a cause of concern for the Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation (BMC). But it may not be of a cause of anxiety in the near future if the BMC's plan to produce electricity from the urban waste takes off. The technology to be used would be based on waste-to-energy generation.
According to sources, raw garbage would be turned into refuse derived fuel (RDF) which would be used to generate electricity. This is the most environment-friendly method to produce electricity, said sources. Nearly 200 tonnes of garbage are dumped daily under BMC areas, said BMC sources, adding its disposal is a very complicated issue due to lack of infrastructure and resources besides absence of dumping ground for disposal of garbage.
