The decadal rate of the population has slowed down as the rate has declined from 21.5 during 1991-2011 to 17.6% during 2010-2011. The growth rate of urban population also seems to be heading for stabilisation as the decadal variation remained around 31.5% during the last two decades.
In terms urbanisation, Goa is the most urbansied state of the country with 62.17% as urban population followed by Mizoram (51.51%) , ands Tamil Nadu (48.45%) and Kerala (47.72%). States like Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal still have to cross 40% mark as the share of urban population in these states varies between 31% to 38%.
